The Down East Radio Reading Service, Inc. (DERRS) has been on the air since 2003, serving over 1,000 listeners and stations 24 hours a day from its studio in Rocky Mount. DERRS broadcasts news and information read from local newspapers and other printed material for people who are blind or print impaired in Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties. The service partners with the North Carolina Reading Service and is managed and staffed by more than 100 volunteers, operating as a 501c(3) not-for-profit entity funded by patrons.
